Blog Post #4 "What have I learned??"

When starting my research I thought about some of the information I would find, but never did I think it would come out so direct. In my own opinion I think that marijuana should be decriminalized and I believe that the U.S. focuses way too much on an issue that shouldn’t be at our countries top priority. My three scholarly sources summed up “in a nutshell” basically said: clinical trials need to occur in order for the people of America to see the good and bad of Marijuana. Once the scientific research happens our country will see that the decriminalization of the drug needs to take place. Once marijuana isn’t a priority, the country could follow the ways of both Colorado and Washington State. The other countries who deal with selling this drug to the U.S. would love to see the country legalize marijuana. They themselves have started to legalize in order to end the war on drugs in their own country. If the United States legalized, their cartels would have no business selling to the US. Again, restating that in order for this whole legalization process to occur the US government is going to allow clinical trials and scientific research to happen. There is a general idea that the use of Medical Marijuana can help the sick and most people are ok with that, but when it comes to recreational use, morality comes into place with society. The argument here is, why not accept a drug that can help the sick versus accepting the sale of drugs that cause illness, like alcohol and tobacco products?  Marijuana has been put up on this pedestal that it is such a horrible drug, it is not good for our society, it is Satan’s lettuce, but is it really? We will not know until the government allows scientific research to occur.

Blog Post #3 "All about the source!"

On this semesters writing assignment for english we are supposed to pick one topic for a varitety of papers. When choosing a topic I wanted to pick something interesting, but also pick something I would enjoy talking about and something that currently is a topic of disucssion in America. I decided to go with the topic of "Legalizing Marijuana," which is VERY broad. At first, I wanted to write about "Immigration," but I felt that since I have wrote about this specific topic in the past, as a researcher it wouldn't allow me to gain more knowledge, but instead it would make me repeat my self yet again. I have thought of numerous angles I could use to make a valid point when writing about this topic, but a simple question that really go me in the right direction is/was...

How does the legalization of marijuana effect or benefit the United States?

Some of the sub-categories I want to reasearch, that directly envolve or deal with this issue are the following:
-Youth Usage
-Comparisson to Alcohol and Tobacco
-Decriminalization
-Medical Usage
-Morality
-Ties with Mexican Drug Trafficking
-Revenue Increaser
-Environmental Factors
-Legalization in Colorado & Washington
-Overall General Research on Marijuana and long-term effects.

All in all, I want to gain as much information on the legalization of marijuana to build my own opinion on how the drug can either benefit or badly effect America, as its own country. After building a valid argument I can give to other people I hope to be able to use each sub-category above to make my research valid.

As far as sources go all the categories listed above will be used to find valid sources.
